Spring Cleaning

After a flurry of activity, like getting my son ready for his first prom and taking my mom to a foot doctor by the name of Legg, I am back in the studio. As I mentioned in my previous post, I have been working with draped slab forms. The one pictured here is from my first effort, and is perfect for holding green apples, shrimps or a bounty of grapes. In order to create space for new work in my studio gallery, I will be taking part in the East End Sale this weekend, here in Charleston. You will find me at 1585 Quarrier Street. Bring your mom by to pick out a lovely vase for Mother's Day, or heck, treat yourself!
On Monday, the 19th, I will be hosting Yasuko Yamagishi, who is traveling from Japan to spend time studying Appalachian wildflowers. In Japan, she operates a school of Ikebana, the art of Japanese flower arrangement. She will spend the day with me in the studio making flower arrangements in my pottery with local wildflowers. I'm very excited to spend time with Yasko and hope my poppies are in bloom for her.
And lastly, an update on the pizza oven. While we had hoped to finish it last fall, the cold weather set in and we go distracted (and cold!). We are now back on track and hope to host a mud stomping party soon. In case your interested in building your own oven, we are working from Kiko Denzer's book, Build Your Own Earth Oven which is full of great advice and lovely pictures. I'll share our photographs with you as the work progresses.

Hi Renee! Poppies always make me think of "Audrey," the plant from "Little Shop of Horrors," when they are at this stage. I have a garden of poppies outside my kitchen window, and it is so strange to look out and see all those nodding heads...
